Holistic health, fitness and empowerment expert J.J. Flizanes talks about what’s inspiring her as an entrepreneur in 2018, and advises how to release any inner limiting beliefs that stand between you and the success of your dreams.
Melinda Wittstock: Welcome to [Wings 00:00:12, JJ.
J.J. FLIZANES: Thanks for having me, Melinda.
Melinda Wittstock: I am so excited to talk to you. I always want to start with what is inspiring you right now?
J.J. FLIZANES: Oh, what's inspiring me right now is that I am manifesting good things for my event in January, and I'm doing it … It's my first live event that I've done in many years. Between sponsors coming in, and ticket sales, and people who have been reading the emails, who are watching the videos and being inspired, I just love when things work.
What's inspiring me is this idea that this holistic and I'm really stepping in to doing the work that I love and being able to combine the mind, body, soul approach to all people without limitations. That's always what I wanted to do, so what's inspiring me is that it's working, and people are wanting it, and they're signing up. Again, I just love when things work, but work in a real way. Not in a temporary is this going to last kind of way, but in a wow, they get the concept. I'm stepping into a new energy. I love that.
Melinda Wittstock: That's nice. You know it sounds like you're in flow.
J.J. FLIZANES: Yes.
Melinda Wittstock: A lot of people talk about flow state. Getting into this thing where it doesn't feel like a grind. It just feels like fun. It's like it's in your bliss; you're in your bliss, rather, in this lovely joy. You can hear it in your voice.
J.J. FLIZANES: I haven't been here the whole time. I'll be honest, because it's in an event, let's be realistic.
Melinda Wittstock: Okay, so you had a little frustration along the way. What is frustrating about putting an event together?
J.J. FLIZANES: I'm stepping into being in a space that I don't know that many people occupy in my field. Everyone that I talk to says what I'm doing is very different. That's my whole brand. It's my last book. It's all my podcasts. It's this event. It's really the holistic approach to mind, body, soul integration. What that means is people that are on a weight loss journey, or people on a health journey, or people on a literally just a happiness journey, like you want to just be happy. How do I get there? How do I marry all these different parts of my life together, or how do I connect them in a way that's meaningful, long lasting, and actually truly transformational, instead of temporary?
We're in the end of the year. The beginning of the year, people want to make major changes in their bodies. They usually just do one of two things. They watch what they eat, they change their diet, or they go to the gym. Many times, people aren't looking at what's under the hood. What makes all that tick? That's why you do program after program year after year, and you don't get any further than temporary results. I'm really kind of diving into a deeper area that not many people do, because most people are afraid of it, quite honestly. You're like, “Oh, I've got to look at my stuff?” Yeah. Do you want real change?
Melinda Wittstock: Yeah, you've got to look at all that stuff lurking around in your brain and all those limiting beliefs, and change your mind. Change the way you think.
J.J. FLIZANES: Yup, yup. Change the way you feel, and change what you attract. That's the name of the game. It's work that people have to be really ready for. It's not the majority of the population. It's a risk on my part to put myself out there in this way, because I'm really saying I'm no longer willing to work with people just in one way. You want weight loss. You want a trainer. You want to talk about nutrition, but you don't want to go past that? I'm not the person for you. If you're not willing to take on the whole package to make real change, then find somebody else.
Melinda Wittstock: I love the confidence with how you articulated that because, all too often, women try to please everyone. You know exactly what you want. You'll attract the right people, and you'll repel the right people. Hey, it's not personal. I think that's awesome.
J.J. FLIZANES: Thank you. I think it's a match. When you asked me at the top of the show here what was inspiring me, it's because it's a risk, because it's unsure, because it's new, because I don't know, it hasn't been proven. That's what's really fun, is to finally see and get emails every day. “I want to come to your event. I missed this sale. Can I get the discount?” It's just really so gratifying that I have clients that I currently work with, to make them watch the video, and have their spouses want to come, and do the work together. It's just, I love that.

Melinda Wittstock: Fantastic. Let's turn now to your top three pieces of real go to advice for all the women entrepreneurs and women in business who are listening right now.
J.J. FLIZANES: Number one, you need to grow with your business, and let your business teach you what wounds need to be healed within you.
Melinda Wittstock: Oh, profound. Isn't that funny? That so many times on this show, we've talked about if you want therapy; become an entrepreneur.
J.J. FLIZANES: Absolutely. Oh my God. If you want to be shown your stuff, look in the mirror. Work for yourself. Yeah.
Melinda Wittstock: It's a very effective tactic. What would be number two?
J.J. FLIZANES: Find a tribe and be willing to grow out of that tribe, and find another tribe. I grow very quickly, and so I'll be attracted to people on some kind of journey. Then I'll get in there, and I'll do it, and then I just move fast. I just grow fast. I expand quickly. Then I get in there, then I outgrow it a little bit. I think people need to be okay with not taking it as a rejection but just as the next lesson, or the next level, or like if when you're in grade school going from one grade to the next. You're just moving on. Take what you need from it and give back as you can, but there will come a point that you might need to move on and be okay with that. You find a tribe to start with, and then as you grow, keep finding new tribes to match where you're going and what calls you.

Melinda Wittstock: That's great advice. And so, number three?
