Geeta Singh
Show Notes
It’s a condition called presbyopia and some 2 billion of us suffer from it worldwide – 111 million in the U.S. And if you’re over 40, you’re almost certain to be reaching for your reading glasses.
Presbyopia translates literally into “old eyes” and Geeta Singh is an entrepreneur whose ‘2020 vision’ is to halt the deterioration of our eyesight.
Co-founder and Chief Business Officer of MagOptics, Geeta and her team has created a device they call a corneal inlay – that is, an implant to reshape our eyes.
Geeta shares her journey from the Fortune 5000 world of corporate boardrooms, mergers and acquisitions and IPOs to what it’s like innovating in MedTech – and trying to raise venture capital.
Here are some of Geeta’s tips for women in business:
- You Don’t Have To Know All The Answers: “I’m a firm believer in jumping in without having all the answers – it is a mindset fundamental to entrepreneurship,” says Geeta. “The investors don’t know all the answers, the strategics don’t know all the answers, the mentors don’t know all the answers, you don’t know all the answers.”
- Have a Release: Geeta says kickboxing and Zumba keep her sane on the entrepreneurial roller coaster. And silent meditation: “Nothing speaks more to you than silence”.
- No Such Things As ‘Work-Life’ Balance: “Anyone expecting a work life balance shouldn’t do this,” says Geeta. Have a support system, a network of other entrepreneurs who get it, and “when all else fails crank Led Zeppelin.
