Patricia Karpas spent many years innovating by building brands and new businesses within larger companies – CNBC, AOL, Time Warner, NBC and Gaiam – before taking the leap into building a business around her love of meditation. The co-founder of the app Meditation Studio, named by Apple as one of its Top 10 of the year.
When Patricia Karpas took up meditation, she didn’t know that many years later she would build a profitable and growing business around the practice.
For many years Patricia had held executive roles in the high-pressure New York media world, building businesses within businesses as an ‘intrapreneur’ at CNBC, NBC, AOL, and Time Warner. She built brands, developed strategic business and media partnerships, produced content and managed numerous business units.
Then she joined Gaiam, and she led the work that began there on what would ultimately become her own business with a buyout – the app Meditation Studio.
The app is top 10 Apple-rated app, and Patricia shares her experiences building a business around a practice she loves – and what it’s like to compete with better-funded Silicon Valley apps like Headspace. She’s also the host of popular podcast, Untangle where she interviews experts, thought-leaders and influencers on how meditation and mindfulness practices change us.
